Ways to Ship a Car Across the Country

When it is time to take a big move, you may want to consider how you will get your car from one location to another. While driving it yourself is an option, this may not be feasible if you need to move a moving truck or you plan to fly to the new location.

Picking the right car shipping company can be an important part of your move. The good news is that there are several options that you can choose to make this easier. Some of the most common ways that you can ship your car across the country safely and securely include:

Ship the Car on a Truck

This is one of the most reliable and traditional car shipping methods across the country. This is a mode of car shipping that helps you to choose whether you will use an enclosed carrier or an open carrier to get the vehicle moved.

The open carrier is the most common because they are the least expensive. With this one, the semi-truck will take 7 to 10 cars so it will cost you less money when it is done. But it does not provide a lot of protection to the car. If you want to take care of an exotic or customized car, then shipping in the enclosed carrier is the better option.

Either way, this is one of the most reliable and easiest methods to use. There are a number of options available to help you pick where you would like to move the car. Try to plan ahead of time to ensure you can reserve your place and save some money at the same time.

Ship the Car on Rail

Another simple method that you can choose to move the car is to load it onto a train and move it to the new location that way. This will depend on where you are dropping the car off at and where you would like to move it.

There are some issues though. If either your pickup location or destination is nowhere near the train stops, then this is not going to work for you. It can also leave the car more vulnerable to vandalism as it waits for transportation from one depot to another.

You will have to watch for some of the extra fees that will show up. The transport on rail could add extra charges to pay for any necessary transportation from the depot to the location where the car should be delivered unless you will show up and collect it yourself.

Ship the Car on a Cargo Container

The third option that you can go with is to use a cargo container to make sure that you can get the car to a new location. The sizes will vary between 20 to 40 feet. This will require the car owner to contact a cargo shipping company and you will need to provide a good deal of information on how they will contact you when the car reaches the location.

Cargo containers are often used for international car transport and can be a secure way to move the car the way that you would like. It may be a bit expensive to work with when you just want to go over the same country, but it may be worth looking into to see whether this is the right option for you.

Unless the other options are not really open at the time, this is probably not going to be your best bet. It works the best for international moves and could be too expensive for what you need.

Hiring a Driver to Take Your Car

This method is a little bit different but could be an option that you will use to move the car to any location you would like. For this to work, you would need to hire another person to take your car from one location and then move it to the new destination at the time that you would like.

There are a few options that will work for this one. Some decide to choose a professional driver. This will be the most expensive option here, but they often have insurance and a good reputation behind them so you know your car is in good hands the whole way.

Another option is to find a college student or someone else who would like to earn a little bit of money to help you move the car. This can be less expensive, but there are more risks for having this person take the car and move it for you.

When you go with this option, you need to double-check the insurance for the vehicle. You may need to discuss using this with your insurance agent to see if it is something you are covered for before you begin and to avoid issues later on.

While this option is often less expensive than some of the other options, you will need to consider some of the wear and tear that come on the car for doing it. You will need to add some more mileage to the car to make this happen, and that can cost more money as you move too.

Shipping Your Car

There are a lot of different methods that you can use to help ship your car and make sure that it gets to the new location on time without any hassle. Choosing the one that is the right one for your move will depend on where you are going, what type of car you would like to move to, and how much you would like to pay.

Using the truck shipping method is the most common option that you can go with. This is reliable and offers a lot of different routes that will get the job done in no time. When you are ready to ship your car and get it to the new location in no time, take a look at some of the options available for you above.
