Floyd Mayweather Jr’s fight against Don Moore has been postponed following the death of United Arab Emirates president Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Five-weight world champion Mayweather was set to take part in his latest money-spinning exhibition bout on the helipad of the Burj Al Arab Hotel against his one-time sparring partner on Saturday.

The event has now been called off however following Sheikh Khalifa’s death aged 73.

The UAE’s ministry of presidential affairs announced a 40-day period of mourning and a three-day suspension of work in all ministries and the private sector beginning on Friday.

Reports suggest the bout could be re-arranged as early as next week.

Former UFC champion Anderson Silva along with light-heavyweight contender Badou Jack were also set to fight on the card alongside Delfine Persoon, who came close to beating Katie Taylor three years ago.

Mayweather has not commented on the postponement but earlier paid tribute to Sheikh Khalifa, writing on Instagram: ‘Sending my condolences to the entire UAE. RIP Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed.’

Mayweather was reportedly set to earn an eight-figure sum for Saturday’s fight.

The American retired from boxing in 2015 with a 49-0 record as one of the sport’s all-time greats, returning to take on Conor McGregor to move 50-0 two years later.

Since then, Mayweather has fought twice in exhibition rule contests, destroying Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa inside a round in 2020 before going eight rounds with Logan Paul last year.

His opponent Moore was undefeated in 18 fights as a professional but has not fought since 2016.
