Klopp responds to Salah’s comments about contract negotiations

It is set to be an intriguing January transfer window for Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp looks to secure at least one trophy for the Reds.

Klopp’s squad has been creaking in recent weeks under the pressure of injuries, Covid-19 and players being at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Reds are certain to at least attempt to boost their options in attack and in midfield over the coming weeks, with those two positions currently lacking in depth in quality.

Also at the forefront of the Anfield side’s mind is the contract situations of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, with both players entering the final 18 months of their deals.

Here, Mirror Football rounds up the latest Liverpool transfer news…

Reds eye Kroos move

Toni Kroos could leave Real Madrid for Liverpool

As they look to boost their options in central midfield, Liverpool are reportedly exploring a move for Real Madrid star Toni Kroos.

Kroos has won four Champions League titles across spells at Bayern Munich and Los Blancos, becoming one of the best midfielders in Europe.

The German has entered the final 18 months of his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu, but El Nacional report that club president Florentino Perez has ‘no plans’ to enter into talks yet.

Real are said to be uncertain about whether or not to offer him a new deal, with Liverpool interested in signing him.

The Spanish paper claim that Jurgen Klopp would be ‘delighted’ to sign Kroos, with the Reds’ interest in him said to be ‘very serious’.

They have already prepared a three-year contract offer for the midfielder and are ready to pay Real a fee of £25million.

Cape Verde starlet scouted

Liverpool are reportedly scouting Kenny Rocha Santos

While Liverpool have brought in experienced stars, Jurgen Klopp has also made moves to sign young starlets.

That work is continuing, with Voetbal Flitsen reporting the Reds are scouting Cape Verde youngster Kenny Rocha Santos.

Santos is said to be a ‘strong holder’ for KV Oostende, who have endured a disappointing season in the Belgian Juplier Pro League.

The 22-year-old was only signed from AS Nancy in the summer, but there are already fears that he could leave Oostende.

He has featured in every game so far this campaign for Oostende in central midfield, attacking midfield and on the wings.

Liverpool are said to be ‘impressed’ by Santos, with Oostende valuing him at around the £8m mark.

Klopp issues Salah update

Jurgen Klopp is hopeful Liverpool can tie Mohamed Salah down to a new contract

Reds boss Klopp has issued an encouraging update about the progression of contract talks with Mohamed Salah.

Salah revealed earlier this week that the discussions are now in Liverpool’s hands, though Klopp is hopeful an agreement can be reached.

“Mo wants to stay, we want Mo to stay. That’s the point where we are and that these things take time, I cannot change. Sorry. But I think it’s all in a good place. Nothing else to say,” he said.

“I’m very positive about it but I don’t think it makes sense that you speak on behalf of the fans because I’m pretty sure the fans are not as nervous as you are.

“I think there are enough reasons for being positive but as long as it is not done we cannot say anything about it. But, good conversations – that’s what I can say.

“Nobody has to worry, it’s just the situation we are in. Really, all fine. It’s not done, that’s why we didn’t get this news, but we are in talks. Of course we want to keep him.”
