Sex And The City fans will know that there has been talk of feud between lead Sarah Jessica Parker (who plays Carrie) and Kim Cattrall (Samantha) for years now. And now, Chris Noth, who plays Carrie’s husband Big on the show, has weighed in with his opinion about it all.
Speaking to The Guardian, Chris Noth said of Cattrall and her decision not to return to film the And Just Like That reboot series: “I have absolutely no idea what her thinking is, or her emotions.”
He continued: “I do know that I’m very close with SJ and [Kim’s] descriptions of her don’t even come close. I liked [Kim], I thought she was marvellous in the show and some people move on for their own reasons. I don’t know what hers were. I just wish that whole thing had never happened because it was sad and uncomfortable.”
“I just don’t like to see anyone talking down about SJ because she’s a target and people can be nasty. I feel very protective of her and I was not happy about that. That’s all I’ll say about that,” he added.
While Parker has remained fairly silent on the issue over the years, Cattrall has occasionally shared her thoughts on her fellow co-star.
Shortly after she revealed she would not be returning for a third SATC movie to reprise her role as Samantha Jones, Cattrall’s brother Christopher sadly passed away. When Parker shared her condolences online, Cattrall replied: “I don’t need your love or support at this tragic time.”
She continued: “My Mom asked me today “When will that @sarahjessicaparker, that hypocrite, leave you alone?” Your continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now. Let me make this VERY clear. (If I haven’t already) You are not my family. You are not my friend. So I’m writing to tell you one last time to stop exploiting our tragedy in order to restore your ‘nice girl’ persona.”
Cattrall also shared a link to a New York Post article titled ‘Inside the mean-girls culture that destroyed ‘Sex and the City’’
The actor also spoke to Piers Morgan about the fallout when she appeared on his Life Stories show in 2017. “I think she could have been nicer,” she said about SJP. “I really think she could have been nicer. I don’t know what her issue is.”
It has now been revealed that in And Just Like That, Samantha’s absence will be explained by a fallout between Carrie and Samantha, which has now resulted in the latter moving to London where she is “thriving.”
